Flatbush Cats is on a mission to solve the outdoor cat crisis in New York City. In 2023, we opened Flatbush Veterinary Clinic, a new kind of veterinary practice focused on providing affordable, high-quality, high-volume spay and neuter surgeries, and wellness and preventative services for dogs and cats. We seek to serve as a model for more community-centered nonprofit vet care clinics across the country.

We are seeking a Veterinarian Medical Director (DVM) to lead our next phase of growth, providing a high standard of care while maximizing the number of people and pets we serve each year.

What You’ll Be Working On

As Medical Director, you’ll set the clinical vision and professional tone for our practice and help shape a more accessible model for veterinary care. You’ll spend part of your time seeing patients, while also mentoring / guiding medical staff and overseeing high quality medical standards across the clinic.

This is a leadership role where your voice matters. You’ll make decisions that impact the community — not a corporate spreadsheet.

While this may shift, a rough time allocation includes:

  • 30% Mentoring and rraining our amazing team

  • 40% Administrative work including auditing, protocols, and oversight

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide competent and up-to-date training to DVMs, LVTs, VAs and other staff

  • Record and audit examinations, results, and treatment recommendations

  • Develop, implement, and oversee procedure and protocols for medical standards

  • Create a warm, welcoming, and accessible environment for all clients by communicating in a respectful, nonjudgmental manner

  • Provide clinical support for client or emergent post-op or other medical concerns

  • Oversee the Licensed Veterinary Technicians and ensure proper protocols are followed

  • Design and oversee training programs for current staff, DVM or LVT students, new graduate Veterinarians, and DVMs interested in learning HQHVSN

  • Be flexible and comfortable with unique challenges and varied situations that may arise

Requirements/Qualifications

  • A current licensed veterinarian (DVM) in New York with several years of clinical experience and DEA registration (can gain DEA registration after hire)

  • Passionate about increasing access to care and serving diverse communities

  • Ready to lead by example, mentor, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team

  • Interested in shaping protocols, policies, and the future of nonprofit veterinary medicine

What We Offer

  • 4-day work week (Monday - Thursday), predictable hours, no overnight emergencies

  • Hybrid option: ability to work one day remotely for administrative tasks

  • Mission-driven environment: Focus on care and impact, not upselling or profit-margins

  • Supportive team: Strong management and trained support staff so you can lead effectively

  • Professional growth: $1500 annual CE allowance, leadership training, conference travel, New York License and PLIT coverage allowance

  • Loan forgiveness eligibility: As a nonprofit, we qualify for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)
