NOTE: we’re a small organization and do not have the resources to respond to every inquiry.

PLEASE READ THE FAQ BEFORE CONTACTING US, AS THIS COVERS THE MOST COMMON QUESTIONS WE RECEIVE.

Flatbush Cats is a TNR-focused cat rescue organization focused on reducing and managing the outdoor cat population. Our focus is solely on the Flatbush neighborhood in Brooklyn.

We may not be able to respond to inquiries or questions not related to our service area.

If you would like help with a cat rescue or trap-neuter-return (TNR) project in Flatbush or East Flatbush, please fill out this contact form.

How can I learn how to do TNR on my block?

You can take an online trap neuter return course through Neighborhood Cats.

Can I donate leftover food or supplies that I can’t use? We don’t have a physical space, so we can’t accept donated food, medicine or other items. You can donate food to Sean Casey Rescue.

I’m interested in adopting a cat, but don’t see any listed on your adoption application? We list cats for adoption screening as soon as they are available, and remove their names when we already have several qualified applicants. Occasionally we also have wait lists for certain types of cats (ex. “pair of kittens TBD”), if that’s what you’re looking for, it’s helpful to fill out an application so you’re in the system. From there, our adoption coordinator will reach out to you within 3-5 days. Please note we do not adopt out single kittens unless you already have another young cat.

I found a cat and took it inside, and I’m not sure what to do next? We’re not a shelter and do not accept cats from the public. Please contact your nearest shelter or Animal Care Centers of NYC for more info.

There’s a cat outside that needs help. What should I do?

If you would like help with a cat rescue or trap-neuter-return (TNR) project in Flatbush or East Flatbush, please fill out this contact form.

If you’re looking for help outside of Flatbush, try contacting The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals or Neighborhood Cats. If you found a cat and aren’t sure where to take it, please contact Animal Care Centers of NYC for more info.

There is a friendly stray outside that needs a home. Can you help find him one?

Our support is limited to the local Flatbush + East Flatbush area, and even then we are not equipped to handle intake for all of the friendly strays on the street. There are just too many. If you’re able to foster the cat or find a friend who can take them in, even holding them in a bathroom for a few days, we can give you tips on getting them healthy and finding a new home or foster. Please note our priority is making sure every cat in Flatbush has been spayed/neutered, we are not a shelter.

I need advice related to socializing a cat.

You can check out our YouTube videos, or post your question on The Cat Site forum. It may seem kind of old school, but there are hundreds of experienced rescuers here who can help. Also try searching the forum for your question to see if it’s already been addressed.

Which areas do you support?

Mainly Flatbush and East Flatbush. Our goal is to build up a TNR + volunteer network here.

Can you spay or neuter my cat?

Not at the moment, but we are working on increasing spay neuter capacity for Brooklyn. We understand the very high need for affordable vet services.

There are some cats on my street or backyard that need to be spayed/neutered. Can you help?

If you’re located in Flatbush, please fill out this form and we can help you get trained to fix the cats on your block. We prioritize support for TNR certified volunteers.

If you’re not in Flatbush, please do a Google and Instagram search to find local rescues in your area and contact them. In many cases a TNR/rescue group might not exist yet – that’s what happened to us and why we exist!

There is a litter of kittens nearby. Can you take them and help get them adopted?

Because so many cats need help and our resources are limited, it’s not possible for us to come trap or rescue cats from your area.

If you’re not in Flatbush, please do a Google and Instagram search to find local rescues in your area and contact them. In many cases a TNR/rescue group might not exist yet – that’s what happened to us and why we exist!

OK I took the TNR class! Can you help me get started?

If you’re in or near Flatbush, we’re happy to provide mentoring support and help you get started.

Please get in touch, and join our Brooklyn TNR Facebook Group for support to connect with other volunteers. This group is only for TNR certified volunteers.

We can also loan you traps and dividers to support your first project.
